Internship Opportunities in the Rutgers University Federal Relations Office

Legislative Internship in the Rutgers University Federal Relations Office:

Rutgers offers a nine-week, undergraduate internship each summer. The session for the summer internship is June 7, 2010 through August 6, 2010. A 40-hour per week commitment is expected. A $3,000 stipend will be offered to the selected student to help cover living expenses in Washington, D.C. The student will be responsible for arranging his or her own travel and lodging in Washington.

 

Rutgers University opened its Washington office in 1994 to help keep the university's mission of teaching, research, and community service at the forefront of the minds of federal officials, legislators, and their staffs. The selected student would assist the university in achieving this mission by:

Rutgers-in-Washington Event and Program Manager:

Rutgers in Washington (RIW) is a program designed to serve as a resource to Rutgers students interning, working or visiting Washington, D.C. during the summer by providing new professional, cultural, and social events and programs. The program assists students with resources to find an internship during the spring semester and helps to prepare them for their internship experience in D.C. In addition, RIW also provides a forum for students to interact with over 4,000 alumni in the Washington area. From sponsored seminars and political meetings, to social and cultural activities, RIW will enhance a student’s internship experience while aiding them in developing a professional career network.

 

The manager of the program is required to work on-campus under the supervision of Career Services during the spring semester and in Washington D.C. under the supervision of the Office of Federal Relations for the summer. The Spring semester (on campus) work commitment is between 8 to 12 hours a week, $12/hour for approximately 13 weeks. The summer commitment is full-time, Monday through Friday, including some weeknights, beginning late May and ending in the second week of August. There is a stipend of $3000 for the summer position in Washington, D.C. The coordinator of the program is expected to:
